SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – UCLA senior guard Isaac Hamilton has been named as one of 20 watch list candidates for the 2017 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award, as announced Tuesday.
 
Named after Hall of Famer and 1959 Final Four MVP Jerry West, the annual honor in its third year recognizes the top shooting guards in Division I men's college basketball. A national committee comprised of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates.
 
Hamilton averaged 16.8 points per game as a junior last season and enters the upcoming 2016-17 campaign as the Pac-12 Conference's top returning scorer. He shot 47.2 percent from the field as a junior, logging a 37.7 percentage from 3-point range. In addition, he averaged 3.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.
 
As a junior, Hamilton scored in double figures in 29 of UCLA's 32 games. In fact, he had a streak of 27 consecutive games with at least 10 points that was snapped in the team's final game in the Pac-12 Tournament. He scored at least 20 points in a team-leading 11 games and was the only player in the Pac-12 to score at least 10 points in each of his team's 18 regular-season conference games.
 
By mid-February of 2017, the award's watch list of 20 players will be narrowed to just 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Mr. West and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner of the 2017 Jerry West Award will be presented to the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show in Los Angeles on Friday, April 7.
 
Previous winners of the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award include Buddy Hield (2016, Oklahoma) and D'Angelo Russell (2015, Ohio State).
