MALIBU, Calif. – The UCLA men's tennis team heads to Malibu to compete in the 2016 ITA Southwest Regional Championships Presented by Oracle. The five-day event runs Oct. 20-24 at Pepperdine University's Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
Four Bruins earned seeds at this year's event. Martin Redlicki is the tournament's No. 1 seed, followed by Gage Brymer at No. 2. Joseph Di Giulio and Austin Rapp also made the list—Di Giulio is seeded ninth and Rapp checks in at No. 10. Joining Redlicki, Brymer, Di Giulio, and Rapp in Malibu are Maxime Cressy, Daniel Gealer, Ben Goldberg, Reid Shumway, Michael Guzman, and Nishanth Yamani.
In doubles, Redlicki and Cressy are the No. 3 seed, while Di Giulio and Rapp are seeded fifth.
Last season, fourth-seeded Redlicki claimed the singles title in three sets over USC's Logan Smith. The Bruin advanced to the singles final after ousting second-seeded Nick Crystal of USC in three sets in the semis. It was the second-straight year that a Bruin won the singles title at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships. In 2014, top-seeded Mackenzie McDonald captured the singles and doubles titles. In the singles championship, McDonald lost the first set to USC's Jonny Wang, but battled back to take the match in three sets. In doubles play, McDonald partnered with Redlicki to claim the doubles crown as well.
The ITA Regional Championships feature some of the top men's and women's players across the country. Over 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 ITA Regional Championships around the country.
