THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - UCLA alum Tom Pernice Jr. claimed his fifth victory on the PGA TOUR Champions on Sunday, posting a 1-shot win at the PowerShares QQQ Championship at Sherwood Country Club. The event is the first tournament of the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs.

On a rainy day in Southern California, Pernice Jr. shot a 2-under 70, making birdies down the stretch on the 14th and 15th holes. His two-putt par from 15 feet on the 18th hole closed out the one-shot win over Colin Montgomerie. Pernice Jr. was 13-under (203) for the event after shooting 69 and 64 in his first two rounds.

With the victory, Pernice Jr. moved up to ninth in the Schwab Cup standings with two events to go (Dominion Charity Classic/Nov. 4-6 and Charles Schwab Cup Championship/Nov. 11-13). Four more Bruin alums, Scott McCarron (7th), Duffy Waldorf (10th), Brandt Jobe (25th) and Steve Pate (51st), remain in the Schwab Cup competition.
