WACO, Texasย --ย The ninth-ranked UCLA Bruins ran out of steam and fell at No. 2 Baylor 84-70ย in a battle of top 10 teams in Ferrell Center on Monday night. UCLA dropped to 1-1 while Baylor improved to 2-0.
The Bruins battled the Bears in the first quarter, trailing only 19-15 and thenย exploded for 33 points in the second period, the most scored by UCLA in any quarter in the last two years, to build a 48-41 lead at the break. In the record-setting quarter, UCLA made 5-of-6 from downtown and was 12-for-24 from the field.
Junior All-American Jordin Canada had a team-high 23 points and added six assists and four steals to lead UCLA. In the fourth quarter, Baylor used a 19-2 run to put the game away. Senior Nicole Kornetย made three consecutive free throws to cut it to 82-66 with 3:10 remaining, which was more points than UCLA could muster up to that point. She added two more free throws to provide the 84-70 final, finishing with nine points and three boards.
For the game, the Bruins forced 15 turnovers and only committed 10 miscues, but the rebounding disparity and poor shooting in the second-half were too much to overcome.

The Bruins return to action on Friday, Nov. 18 at 7:00 p.m. when they host Southern University.
