LOS ANGELES - Both UCLA men's and women's cross country teams will head to Terre Haute, Ind., this weekend to compete in the NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 19. The meet is hosted by Indiana State University at LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course at Wabash Valley Family Sport Center.ย
The women's 6k will start things off at 8 a.m. PST and will be followed by the men's 10k at 9 a.m. PST. The race will be broadcasted live by FloTrack from the start of the women's race until the end of the awards ceremony.
The trip will be the 15th for the UCLA women and the 11th for the Bruin men. The women earned the bid after last making an appearance in 2014. This will be the third straight trip for the men's squad.ย
2016 marks the second time under the direction of coach Forest Braden that both teams earned a bid in the same season. The first under his tutelage was in 2014 and that marked the first trip for both teams since 1985.ย
The men make the trip to Terre Haute after placing third at the NCAA West Regional yesterday in Sacramento. The third place showing was their best finish at the regional championship since 2012. The women posted their second-best finish since 2006 as the Bruins placed sixth overall.ย
Thirty-one teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the nine regions, for a total of 18 teams. Thirteen additional teams were selected at-large.
According to the USTFCCCA Division I national coaches poll pre-championship national rankings, the UCLA's men's team rank No. 10 and the women's team checks in at 30th. UCLA senior, Ferdinand Edman, currently ranks 22nd in the Saucony Flo50 Men's Individual XC Rankings going into the weekend.
