UCLA Wraps Up 2016 Season at NCAA Championships

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The UCLA cross country team wrapped up a stellar 2016 campaign on Saturday at the NCAA Championships, held at the LaVern Gibson Championships Cross Country Course. The men finished 15th overall while the women's squad concluded their season in 28th.
All season long senior Ferdinand Edman led the Bruins, and he capped off his career no differently. The Norway native posted the best UCLA individual finish since Meb Keflezighi won the championship in 1997 by placing 14th overall on the 10k course with a time of 30:08.
Senior Jonah Diaz also wrapped up his senior season in impressive fashion as he posted a 52nd place finish with a time of 30:34.0. Freshman Garrett Reynolds placed 126th in a time of 31:05.0 and was followed by redshirt freshman Colin Burke in 141st with a 31:10.8 and junior Daniel De La Torre in 143rd in 31:11.3.
The Bruin top seven was capped off by junior Myles Smith in 163rd with a time of 31:19.7 and senior Austin O'Neil in 201st place with a 31:41.8. The men finished 15th with 378 points.
The UCLA women finished 28th overall with 596 points. The Bruins were led by sophomore Carolina Johnson, who placed 59th with a time of 20:36.2. Freshman Claire Markey, still competing with a facial fracture was 91st with a time of 20:47.7.
Freshman Cassandra Durgy was 164th in a time of 21:09.4 while junior Roni Yamane was 202nd with a time of 21:30.3. Closing out the UCLA top five was junior Emily Scharmann in 214th with a 21:42.1. Redshirt freshman Jackie Garner was 216th in 21:45.2 while sophomore Julia Rizk rounded out the Bruin seven in 230th with a 22:10.7.
