GIRONA, Spain - Bruin alum Pontus Widegren (2010-2013) earned his European Tour card last week (Nov. 12-17), finishing in a tie for 19th at the final qualifying stage at the PGA Catalunya Resort.
Widegren shot a 6-under 422 during his six rounds, going 72-71-74-66-68-71. He came into the final qualifying stage after tying for ninth at the second stage, and prior to that was on a streak of six consecutive cuts made in Challenge Tour events, including a T-7 at the Kazakhstan Open and a T-11 at the 2016 Golf Challenge.
Widegren played in 19 tournaments on the European Challenge Tour in 2016, making the money in 10 events, including one top 10. In 71 events on that circuit, he made 41 cuts and was in the top 10 on nine occasions. From 2008 to 2016, he has appeared in 15 European Tour events, having cashed four times, including one top 10 in 2015.
