UCLA junior guard Jordin Canada has been selected to the Naismith Trophy Women's 50 preseason watch list, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today.
Canada earned All-America honors last season after leading the Bruins to the Sweet 16 while averaging a team-high 16.1 points and 5.7 assists. This season she has already been named to the watch list for the Nancy Lieberman Award and was selected to the Preseason All-Pac-12 team. Canada currently averages 18.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game. On Nov. 18, she recorded the sixth triple-double in UCLA history in the win over Southern, tallying 11 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists. She has one Pac-12 Player of the Week honor under her belt already this season, and last week, she was named MVP of the Riviera Division at the Cancun Challenge after scoring a season-high 27 points in the win over Toledo and adding 13 points with six assists in the win over Iowa.
The 50 players on the watch list are in consideration for the 2017 Naismith Women's College Player of the Year award. The mid-season list of 30 will be announced on Feb. 8, 2017.
