The UCLA men's volleyball team defeated Stanford in a series of exhibition matches played on Saturday in the SAC Gym on campus. The Bruins captured the feature match in five sets --- 25-27, 21-25, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-23.Junior opposite Christian Hessenauer led the attack with 20 kills. Also in double figure kills were senior hitter Michael Fisher-12, freshman middle blocker Daenan Gyimah-11 and junior hitter JT Hatch-10.
In earlier split squad matches, UCLA A defeated Stanford 25-17, 25-23, 25-17. Hatch had 18 kills in that contest. Fisher added 13 kills and junior middle blocker Oliver Martin added 11 kills.UCLA B topped the Cardinal 25-19, 25-21, 25-18 behind eight kills and five aces from junior hitter Jake Arnitz. Senior hitter Jackson Bantle added seven kills while Gyimah added seven kills and three blocks.
Next weekend, the Bruins host the annual SAC Fall Tournament on Friday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Nov. 12 featuring teams from USC, UC Santa Barbara and CSUN. In exhibition matches on Friday at 5 p.m., UCLA will meet CSUN and USC battles UC Santa Barbara. On Saturday at 9 a.m., UCLA will take on UC Santa Barbara while CSUN squares off against USC. In the 2 p.m. matches, UCLA will play USC and UCSB challenges CSUN. All matches will be played in the SAC Gym on campus.
