UCLA Sweeps Pac-12 Women's Soccer Weekly Awards

November 08, 2016 | Women's Soccer

For the second time this season, UCLA swept the Pac-12 Player of the Week awards, with senior midfielder Annie Alvarado winning offensive honors for the second time in her career, sophomore defender Hailie Mace winning defensive honors for the second time this season, and freshman Teagan Micah winning Goalkeeper of the Week for the third time.

Alvarado scored the game-winning goal in UCLA's 1-0 win over fifth-ranked USC, volleying a shot after a USC clearance past the Trojan goalkeeper into the back of the net in the 27th minute. The goal was her second of the season. Four of Alvarado's six career goals have been game-winners.

Mace played strong defense at center back in UCLA's shutout win over the Trojans, making big defensive plays, including blocking a shot by Nicole Molen in the 89th minute to preserve the shutout, UCLA's seventh of the year.

Micah made a career-high seven saves in earning her seventh shutout of her freshman campaign, including a fingertip stop in the 76th minute on a shot by Katie Johnson. She now ranks third in the Pac-12 in saves (78) and shutouts (7).

This is the second weekly sweep by a school this season and only the fourth sweep since the three awards were established in 2014. UCLA has won Pac-12 weekly honors a total of 10 times this season and 64 times in Pac-12 history.

UCLA begins NCAA Tournament play on Friday, Nov. 11 against Seattle University at Drake Stadium at 7pm. Tickets are on sale now here.
