Alvarado Named UCLA Student-Athlete of Week
November 08, 2016 | Women's Soccer
Senior midfielder Annie Alvarado of the UCLA women's soccer team was voted the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Nov. 1-7.
Alvarado scored the game's only goal in the 27th minute to lead 18th-ranked UCLA to a 1-0 victory over fifth-ranked USC in front of 8,508 fans at StubHub Center. Alvarado pounced on a clearance in the box and volleyed it past the USC goalkeeper for her second goal of the season and sixth of her career. The senior team co-captain played all 90 minutes as the Bruins earned their seventh shutout of the season and their fourth win over a Top 25 opponent.
This is Alvarado first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and second of her career.
The UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week is chosen by fans on Twitter via @UCLAAthletics. This week, Alvarado beat out women's golfer Bronte Law, who was the top finisher in stroke play and went 2-0 in match play at the East Lake Cup, and men's soccer player Abu Danladi, who scored two goals, including the game-winner, in the Bruins' critical 4-3 win at Oregon State.
