UCLA Statement on NCAA Cross Country Infractions
On August 28, 2024, UCLA and the NCAA Enforcement staff agreed a former assistant cross country and track and field coach had impermissible communication with two student-athletes and their parents. The coach did not obtain authorization through the notification of transfer process. Both student-athletes transferred and competed while ineligible at UCLA. The former assistant coach also had impermissible recruiting contact with a women’s cross country and track and field prospective student-athlete prior to August 1 of her junior year in high school.
UCLA fully cooperated with the investigation and worked collaboratively with the NCAA enforcement staff to bring the matter to a timely resolution.
The penalties agreed upon are one year of probation from August 23, 2024, through August 22, 2025; a financial penalty; a prohibition on all recruiting communications in women’s cross country and women’s indoor and outdoor track for two weeks during the first two weeks of the fall 2024 cross country notification of transfer window; shall count the impermissible contact with the high school prospective student-athlete as one of the permissible contact opportunities and reduce the remaining number of permissible contact opportunities by one; public reprimand and censure.
UCLA welcomes the conclusion of this investigation and is eager to move forward in a positive direction.
