April 19, 2026 | Men's Tennis
SEATTLE โ The 21st-ranked UCLA men's tennis team outlasted Washington 4-3 in the teams' regular-season finale Sunday at Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center. Aadarsh Tripathi delivered the deciding point in three sets.
The Bruins (16-6, 10-3 Big Ten) held leads of 2-0 and 3-1 in the Big Ten Conference match. Also triumphant in singles play for UCLA were Cassius Chinlund and Rudy Quan. The Huskies (8-17, 2-11) charged back into the contest with victories by Stephane Kamendje, Brett Pearson and Nikola Plavsic.
The Bruin duo of Gianluca Ballotta/Emon van Loben Sels earned its third win in a row and sixth in seven tries, beating Kamendje/Rohan Belday 6-2 to kick off doubles play. Tripathi/Andy Nguyen then secured the initial point with its 6-1 performance versus No. 46 Pearson/Soham Purohit on Court 1. Tripathi/Nguyen had not recorded a ranked victory prior to Sunday.
Chinlund raced out to a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Hyeonseok Seo on the fifth singles court. Chinlund has won five consecutive singles matches and nine of 10, with each win coming in straight sets.
Kamendje put Washington on the scoreboard with his 6-4, 6-3 Court 2 showing opposite No. 33 van Loben Sels. No. 94 Quan answered, though, dealing Purohit a 6-4, 6-3 defeat on the top court. Quan is now 12-2 in dual singles play and a winner of four straight results.
Near-simultaneous finishes pulled the Huskies level. Pearson knocked off Nguyen 7-6(3), 6-2 on Court 4 before Nikola Plavsic bested Bengt Reinhard 6-3, 7-6(3) on Court 6.
With all eyes on Court 3, Tripathi immediately broke Belday's serve to start their third set. Tripathi rode that to a 5-1 advantage. Alternating holds gave Tripathi a 6-1, 6-7(1), 6-2 victory. He has clinched two team wins this season and seven in his career.
UCLA now turns its attention toward the 2026 Big Ten Men's Tennis Tournament in Ojai, Calif. Play from Libbey Park begins Wednesday and continues through Saturday. The Bruins are seeded fifth and face crosstown rival and fourth-seeded USC in Thursday's quarterfinal round, with first serve scheduled for 12 p.m. PT.
