May 12, 2026 | Men's Tennis
GREENWOOD, Ind. -- Emon van Loben Sels of UCLA men's tennis earned a spot on the Academic All-District® Team for 2025-26, it was announced Tuesday by College Sports Communicators (CSC). He was also picked to the national ballot for Academic All-America® consideration.
A nominee must be at least a sophomore, academically and athletically, with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or better. Graduate student-athletes are required to meet the 3.50 threshold as undergraduate and graduate students. CSC will publish its Academic All-America® list on Wednesday, June 3.
A redshirt junior from Sacramento, Calif., van Loben Sels logged a team-high 22 total singles wins (22-9) in 2025-26. He went 15-5 in dual play, playing exclusively on the top three courts, and clinched three team victories. On the doubles side, van Loben Sels posted team-best records of 25-5 overall and 18-3 in dual matches. He qualified for the NCAA doubles tournament alongside partner Spencer Johnson. A 6-5 mark opposite nationally-ranked singles players helped van Loben Sels' own ranking reach a career-high No. 20 on Nov. 25, 2025. He has also climbed to a career-best No. 8 (Aug. 26, 2025) in the doubles rankings this season with Johnson. Last month, van Loben Sels was voted onto the All-Big Ten First Team and was named one of the conference's Sportsmanship Honorees.
This is van Loben Sels' first year eligible for CSC academic honors. In 2024-25, Alexander Hoogmartens became the first Bruins since 2009 to make the Academic All-America® team. He was voted onto the first team.
