Four Bruins Earn TDS Freshman Best XI Honors

UCLA's top-ranked freshman class lived up to its billing in 2016, with four Bruins named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Freshman Best XI team, led by National Freshman of the Year and third-team All-American Jessie Fleming. Joining Fleming on the Freshman Best XI first team are midfielder Anika Rodriguez, defender Kaiya McCullough and goalkeeper Teagan Micah.
Fleming, a freshman midfielder from London, Ontario, led the Bruins in scoring with 11 goals and 27 points in 19 games played. She came to UCLA three games into the season after winning bronze at the Olympic Games with Team Canada. She scored two goals in her first game and scored at least one goal in her first four games. In the postseason, she scored one goal and three assists and earned NSCAA third-team All-America and first-team All-Pac-12 honors.
Rodriguez, a redshirt freshman midfielder from Torrance, Calif., led UCLA and ranked second in the Pac-12 in assists with eight. She also scored three goals and ranked fourth on the team in scoring with 13 points. A second-team All-Pac-12 honoree, Rodriguez played in all 22 games and made 20 starts.
McCullough, a freshman defender from Mission Viejo, Calif., played in 21 games and contributed to nine shutouts. She also recorded one assist from the center back position. McCullough also received Pac-12 All-Freshman honors.
Micah, a goalkeeper from Redcliffe, Australia, started in every game this season, recording nine shutouts and a 0.96 goals against average. She recorded 93 saves, the second-most ever by a UCLA goalkeeper in a single season.
