No. 4 UCLA Falls to No. 2 FSU, 4-1

DeLAND, Fla. -- No. 4 UCLA (7-4) dropped its second match to No. 2 Florida State (14-0) this season, 4-1, on Friday afternoon at the Stetson Beach Invitational at the Cooper Beach Volleyball Courts. The Bruins were able to force three sets on three courts, but lost all three to lose the match.
The Bruins took a 1-0 lead after sophomore Reily Buechler and freshman Zana Muno dispatched Florida State's Estefanie Bethancour and Tina Toghiyani for an easy 21-9, 21-17 straight-set victory.
The Seminoles tied it up at 1-1 on court five when Nikki Esposito and Hailey Luke outlasted UCLA's junior Laurel Weaver and senior Julie Consani in three sets, 21-18, 17-21, 16-14.
Florida State got another three-set win on court one as Jace Pardon and Julie Brown hung on to defeat the Bruins' freshman pair of Nicole McNamara and Megan McNamara, 21-14, 17-21, 15-12.
FSU clinched the match on court two, going up 3-1, as Kristina Pellitteri and Victoria Paranagua posted a straight-set win over UCLA's sophomore Elise Zappia and freshman Izzy Carey, 21-12, 21-17.
The Seminoles provided the 4-1 final on court three when Vanessa Freire and Sierra Sanchez defeated the Bruins' duo of senior Kamila Tan and sophomore Ivey Schmitt in three straight sets, 21-18, 16-21, 21-19.
The Bruins return to action on Saturday, March 26 when they conclude play in the Stetson Beach Invitational. UCLA opens play at 6:00 a.m. PT against No. 17 Florida Atlantic and then will face the hosts No. 9 Stetson at Noon.
