Bruins Down Wildcats on Senior Day

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Rebounding from a heartbreaking loss to No. 26 Arizona State on Friday night, the No. 23 UCLA women's tennis team cruised past No. 66 Arizona on Sunday afternoon. Closing out their home campaign with a 5-2 win on Senior Day, the Bruins improve to 14-5 on the season and 6-2 in conference play.

UCLA started strong, clinching the doubles point on courts 1 and 2. The fifth-ranked senior duo of Catherine Harrison and Kyle McPhillips dispatched Shayne Austin and Lauren Marker, 6-1, at the top of the lineup. Shortly after, Terri Fleming and Alaina Miller defeated Devin Chypyha and Inge Hendrikx, 6-4, on court 2 to clinch the point.
In singles play, the Bruins took five of six first sets. Miller then gave UCLA a 2-0 lead when she dispatched Camila Wesbrooks in straight sets on court 4. Harrison quickly added another point to the board, downing No. 42 Marker in straights on court 1.

The Wildcats responded with a straight-set win at the bottom of the lineup, as Laura Luca fell to Kinga Gartner. The Bruins led 3-1 with three matches still playing.
The clincher came from Kristin Wiley on court 4. Wiley downed Arizona's Samantha Czarniak, 6-4, 6-1, to take the match for UCLA. On the remaining courts, McPhillips retired and Fleming defeated Chypyha in straights.
Next up, the Bruins travel crosstown for a doubleheader with the men's tennis team against the USC Trojans on Sunday. Action begins with doubles at 12:30 pm PDT. Men's singles kicks off at 1:30 pm, followed by women's singles. Singles play will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks.
