LOS ANGELES, Calif. – After defeating No. 36 Stanford on Friday, the fifth-ranked UCLA men's tennis team completed the sweep of the Bay Area teams when it edged No. 16 California on Saturday afternoon. With the 4-2 win, the Bruins improve to 15-2 on the season and 4-0 in conference play.
For the second straight match, UCLA came from behind to win after dropping the doubles point. This time, Cal clinched the point on courts 1 and 3. First, Gage Brymer and Maxime Cressy fell to Mads Engsted and J.T. Nishimura, 6-2, on court 3. After trailing 1-4 on court 1, Cal's 44th-ranked duo of Filip Bergevi and Florian Lakat rattled off five straight wins to overtake the fourth-ranked Bruin pair of Mackenzie McDonald and Martin Redlicki, 6-4.
Once again, UCLA picked up steam in singles play, taking five of six first sets. The Bruins quickly registered two straight-set wins to take a 2-1 lead over the Golden Bears. First, No. 49 Redlicki made quick work of No. 17 Andre Goransson on court 2, steamrolling his opponent in straight sets to even the score at 1-1. On court 4, No. 98 Karue Sell dispatched No. 62 Oskar Wikberg, 6-2, 6-3, to give the Bruins their first lead of the match.

After downing No. 28 Lakat, 6-2, in the first set, No. 9 McDonald traded game for game with his opponent in the second. McDonald knotted the score at 6-6 to send the set into the tiebreaker. Lakat was unable to overcome McDonald's early lead, as the Bruin won the tiebreaker, 7-3, to add another UCLA point to the board.
With three matches still playing, the Bruins led the Golden Bears, 3-1.
Nishimura registered Cal's first and only singles point when he edged Joseph Di Giulio in a tight three setter on court 6. Di Giulio took the first set, but Nishimura rallied to take the next two. UCLA held a 3-2 advantage.
The deciding point came from No. 41 Brymer on court 3. After edging Bergevi, 10-8, in the first set tiebreaker, Brymer battled for the second set. With the score tied at 5-5, Brymer held to take the lead and inch the Bruins closer to victory. Brymer broke Bergevi to take the match in straights and clinch for UCLA, 4-2.
