
UCLA Advances to Pac-12 Quarterfinals

LOS ANGELES -- Fourth-ranked UCLA (18-4) advanced to the winner's bracket quarterfinals of the Pac-12 Championships with a 4-1 win over seventh-seeded Washington (3-5) in the first round at USC's Merle Norman Stadium on Friday night. It marked the Bruins' 11th-consecutive victory.
The Bruins won the first point on court four as UCLA's tandem of freshman Zana Muno and junior Jessyka Ngauamo defeated the Huskies' Justice Macgraw and Melanie Wade in straight sets, 21-9, 21-14.
Senior Julie Consani and her partner, junior Laurel Weaver, put UCLA up 2-0 with a straight-set win on court five over UW's Lindsay Chalmers and Destiny Julye, 21-18, 21-8.
Washington picked up its only point on court one when Crissy Jones and Tia Scambray defeated the Bruins' freshman duo of Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara, 21-16, 21-19.
UCLA's duo of sophomore Elise Zappia and freshman Izzy Carey sealed the team win on court three with a straight-set victory over Washington's Jade Finau and Lianna Sybeldon, 21-15, 21-10.
On court two, UCLA's senior Kamila Tan and sophomore Ivey Schmitt rallied for a three-set win over the Huskies' Courtney Schwan and Cassie Strickland, 15-21, 21-17, 15-11, to provide the 4-1 final.
The Bruins return to action tomorrow in the quarterfinals at 3:00 p.m. where they will face third-seeded Arizona (16-3), which defeated No. 6 Stanford, 4-1, earlier today.
