Scarvelis Selected as Athlete of Week
May 17, 2016 | Track & Field

Senior thrower Nicholas Scarvelis (Santa Barbara, Calif.) of the UCLA track & field team was named the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for May 9-15.
Scarvelis capped off his final Pac-12 Track and Field Championships with two individual titles. The top shot putter in the country won the event with ease, leading a Bruin 1-2 finish with a stadium record throw of 67-4.75. He then came back on Sunday to win the discus with a mark of 187-10. With the pair of victories, Scarvelis became the first Bruin to win both the shot put and discus at the same conference championships since Dan Ames in 2004. His 20 points from the meet propelled the UCLA men to a third place finish with a tally of 94.20 points.
This is Scarvelis' second UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of his career.
Also nominated: Mackenzie Barr, W. Water Polo.
