Spaulding Named UCLA Athlete of Week
May 24, 2016 | Softball

Junior shortstop Delaney Spaulding (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) of the UCLA softball team was named the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for May 16-22.
Spaulding hit three go-ahead home runs to help the Bruins win the Los Angeles Regional at Easton Stadium. Spaulding, who went 4-for-8 (.500) on the weekend with five RBI, four runs and two walks, posted the third, two-homer game of her career on Saturday against Cal State Fullerton. With the score tied at one, her homer in the fourth gave the Bruins the lead. Again with the game tied at two in the sixth, Spaulding launched another one out to give UCLA a 3-2 edge, which would prove to be the final score. On Sunday, with the Bruins trailing 3-1 in the third, Spaulding got her third of the weekend, a three-run shot to give the home team a 4-3 advantage, as UCLA went on to win 5-4.
This is Spaulding's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and second of her career.
Also nominated: Mackenzie McDonald, M. Tennis; Luke Persico, Baseball.
