GULF SHORES, Ala., -- Fourth-seeded UCLA (22-7) got a chance to exact some revenge over fifth-seeded Hawai'i (18-10), eliminating the Rainbow Wahine with a 3-0 win in the elimination bracket of the 2016 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship on Saturday afternoon at Gulf Place Beach.
The Bruins will now face No. 1 Florida State, which fell 3-1 to No. 2 USC earlier in the day in the winner's bracket semifinal. The FSU dual will be televised by TruTV and will start at 10:30 a.m. CT/8:30 a.m. PT.
UCLA earned the first point on court four when the Bruins' Jessyka Ngauamo and Zana Muno reamined undefeated at the NCAA Championships, defeating the Rainbow Wahine's Lara Schreiber and Hannah Zalopany, 21-15, 22-20.
The Bruins went up 2-0 after a win on court three by Izzy Carey and Elise Zappia over UH's Ginger Long and Mikayla Tucker, 20-22, 21-19, 15-11.
UCLA earned the 3-0 sweep with a three-set win on court two as Ivey Schmitt and Kamila Tan defeated Nikki Taylor and Ka'iwi Schucht, 18-21, 21-12, 15-12.
The Bruin pairs on courts one and five were in the third sets of their matches when UCLA secured the team win with a 3-0 lead. The duals at the NCAA Championship play to decision, not completion.
