Four Bruins Named Scholastic All-Americans

Four members of the UCLA gymnastics team โ Sadiqua Bynum, Danusia Francis, Mikaela Gerber and Jennifer Pinches - earned NACGC/W Scholastic All-America honors during the 2015-16 school year, leading the Bruins to a standardized team GPA of 3.179.
Bynum, a 2016 graduate with a degree in sociology, received her first Scholastic All-America honor after posting a 3.64 GPA during the school year. Bynum is a three-time All-American on floor and finished her career hitting 58 routines in a row, leading the team with nine event titles, including the 2016 NCAA regional floor title. Additionally, she sealed three team victories as the anchor on floor, most notably at the Pac-12 Championships.
Pinches, a member of the 2012 Great Britain Olympic team, graduated a year early in 2016 with a degree in psychology and earned a GPA of 3.79 during the school year to earn her third career Scholastic All-America Award. Pinches competed for the Bruins from 2014-15, hitting 97% of her routines in an important lead-off role. She served as an undergraduate assistant coach in 2016.
Gerber finished her junior year with a 3.81 GPA for the year. A psychology major, she received her third career Scholastic All-America Award and also earned second-team Pac-12 All-Academic honors. Gerber hit 19-for-19 routines in 2016, scoring at least a 9.8 on 10 of her last 11 leadoff beam routines. She led UCLA to a 49.575 beam score at the Pac-12 Championships with a leadoff mark of 9.9 and had a season and career-best 9.925 on Mar. 6.
Francis graduated in 2016 with a degree in English and earned a 3.62 GPA for the year to earn her second Scholastic All-America honor. In 2016, she won the NCAA balance beam title, in addition to the Pac-12 and Regional beam titles. She scored her second perfect 10 on beam on Mar. 6 and closed out her career by hitting 133 of 135 routines, including 74 consecutive. Francis is a six-time All- American and a 2016 Tom Hansen Pac-12 Conference Medal winner.
The NACGC/W Scholastic All-America team acknowledges gymnasts who carry a 3.5 or higher GPA during the school year.
