Malibu, Calif. – No. 11 UCLA scored three goals in just under five minutes to defeat No. 25 Pepperdine, 3-0.
After a scoreless first half that saw Pepperdine create the most scoring opportunities, mostly on counter-attacks, UCLA came out swinging in the second half, scoring three goals in the first nine minutes of the half. Darian Jenkins started the scoring with her fifth goal of the year at 49:57, shooting from the top of the box after receiving a pass from Annie Alvarado. Kaiya McCullough also earned an assist on the play.
Gabrielle Matulich scored her first goal of the year less than two minutes later, taking a long ball from Hailie Mace inside the box and juking a defender to get a clear look. Matulich sent a shot to the upper right corner for her first goal of the season. The Bruins used the long ball to get their third goal at 53:49. After a corner kick got cleared out, Zoey Goralski lofted the ball back into the box, where it found Gabbi Miranda, who headed it up and over an onrushing Seabert into the near post.
The Bruins (5-2) held on for the shutout, goalkeeper Teagan Micah's fourth of the season. Micah had two saves. Seabert had one save for the Waves (4-3-1). The victory was UCLA's third against a Top 25 team this season.
"Our players took what was said at halftime and executed," said UCLA head coach Amanda Cromwell. "This was a big win."
UCLA will wrap up non-conference play on Sunday against Long Beach State. The match will take place at Drake Stadium at 6pm.
