UCLA Opens Pac-12 Play Against Stanford in the Rose Bowl

LOS ANGELES - UCLA (2-1,0-0) returns home to begin Pac-12 Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 24 against Stanford (ranked 7th by AP and 6th by coaches; 2-0,1-0) in a 5 p.m. game.ย The contest will be televised by ABC and announcing the game will be Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Sam Ponder. The Bruin IMG Radio Network (Josh Lewin, Matt Stevens, Wayne Cook) will radio broadcast the contest on am570 or 1150am. The contest will also be aired over Sirius 84/XM 84 (internet 84), uclabruins.com and tunein.com, the TuneIn App and Sports USA Radio (Isaac Lowenkron and Doug Plank).
VS. STANFORD โ UCLA leads the series with Stanford by a 45-39-3 count. The Cardinal have won the last eight meetings in the series (0-5 at Stanford and 0-3 at UCLA). The Bruins had captured the previous five meetings in the series. A year ago, the teams met in game 6 of the 2015 season. Stanford jumped out to a 35-17 halftime lead and used 369 all-purpose yards from Christian McCaffrey to post a 56-35 win. The Bruins racked up 506 yards of total offense in the contest. Josh Rosen completed 22 of 42 attempts for 325 yards and three touchdowns, including a 70-yard scoring strike to Darren Andrews. Linebacker Kenny Young led UCLA with 13 tackles in the contest.
UCLA 's last win in the series came by a score of 23-20 in a 2008 Homecoming game in the Rose Bowl. Quarterback Kevin Craft completed six straight passing attempts during an 11-play scoring drive which culminated on a 7-yard toss to current LA Ram tight end Cory Harkey with 10 seconds to play. The Bruins most recent win on the Farm came in the 2007 season-opener, by a score of 45-17, spoiling Jim Harbaugh's debut as Cardinal head coach. Ben Olson threw five scoring passes during that contest and Khalil Bell ran for 195 yards to lead the Bruin attack.

Last season UCLA trounced No. 16 Arizona in Tucson, 56-30. The year prior, UCLA handled No. 15 Arizona State in Tempe, 62-27. In 2012 UCLA downed Utah on the road, 34-27. The Bruins lost Mora's Pac-12 debut at home against Oregon State, 27-20.
UCLA is 13-7 against AP ranked opponents under Coach Mora. The Bruins have racked up an impressive 8-2 record against ranked foes in the last two seasons, going 4-1 in both 2014 and 2015.
The Bruins are coming off an impressive defensive showing in Provo as UCLA held the BYU rushing attack to just 23 yards on 25 attempts. The effort was a UCLA best since 2008 when Arizona State could only muster 21 yards on the ground.
UCLA is 14-2 in games played in the month of September under Coach Mora. The Texas A&M loss to open this season was the first in the month since 2012.

All former, current and future UCLA student-athletes who have competed in the Olympics โ over 400 in all โ have been invited to the UCLA Olympian Reunion weekend. The reunion will kick off on the evening of Friday, Sept. 23 with a dinner and reception, hosted by UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero and Wasserman at a private home. The UCLA Olympians will also be invited to attend the Sept. 24 UCLA-Stanford football game at the Rose Bowl, join the THEN NOW FOREVER tailgate and be publicly recognized on the field at halftime.
In UCLA's storied history, 424 Bruins in all have combined to make 687 Olympic appearances. Last month, UCLA had 36 representatives at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. Eight Bruins came home with a total of nine medals, including current student-athletes Madison Kocian from gymnastics (1 gold, 1 silver), Rachel Fattal and Maddie Musselman from women's water polo (gold) and Jessie Fleming from women's soccer (bronze).
