Bruins Open Fall Campaign in Tulsa
September 29, 2016 | Men's Tennis
LOS ANGELES, Calif. โ The Intercollegiate Tennis Association is set to hold its first national championship tournament of the 2016-17 season, as the nation's top Division I men's players gather in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to take part in the 2016 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships.
Pre-qualifying matches are slated to begin on Saturday, Oct. 1, with qualifying matches starting on Oct. 3, and main draw contests getting underway on Oct. 6. The singles and doubles finals are scheduled for Oct. 10.
UCLA junior Martin Redlicki and senior Gage Brymer will play in the singles main draw. Seniorย Joseph Di Giulio and junior Austin Rapp made the pre-qualifying singles list. ย While third-seeded Di GIulio has a first-round bye, Rapp faces James Martell of Texas A&M at 10:30 a.m. PT on Saturday. ย ย ย
"I think this year our players are as well prepared for Tulsa as we have been in many years," said UCLA head coach Billy Martin.ย "All the team members except for Logan have been playing the Pro Futures tournaments here in southern California the past three weeks and have played a lot of matches.
"Obviously it's a very tough draw with almost all the top players playing in the tournament," added Martin. "But I feel all our guys have a chance to go deep into the tournament and, with a little luck, maybe win it."ย
Singles quarterfinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive an automatic entry into the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Nov. 3-6, held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.
The ITA Men's All-Americanย event pageย will include draw updates, links to scoring updates, live streaming, and photo galleries, in addition to daily main draw recaps. ย FloTennis will live stream up to four courts each day of the main draw atย www.flotennis.com.ย

UCSB Classic

Season Outlook
After losing veterans Mackenzie McDonald and Karue Sell, the Bruins will use the fall season to rebuild and prepare for a tough spring schedule that includes early bouts with top-ranked teams from the SEC and ACC.ย
"We need to work very hard this fall if we want to compete at the highest level for a national championship," said Martin of the fall season. ย "We not only lost Mackie from last year but also Karue, who was rock solid in both singles and doubles for us. ย Everyone is going to really need to raise their level of play.ย
"Doubles again will be so very important for us, as winning four singles matches without Mackie and Karue will be difficult," added Martin.ย "The good news is that we have lots of veterans that have been through two or three years of tough matches and know what it takes to win. ย I'm confident we will be a team that will compete hard and be ready to battle with any team in the country come January."ย
