UCLA Set for Home Opener Against UNLV

LOS ANGELES - UCLA (0-1) battles UNLV (1-0) at the Rose Bowl on Saturday, Sept. 10 in a 5:00 p.m. game. The contest will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks and announcing the game will be Ted Robinson, Yogi Roth and Cindy Brunson. The Bruin IMG Radio Network (Josh Lewin, Matt Stevens and Wayne Cook) will radio broadcast the contest on am570 or 1150am. The contest will also be aired over Sirius 146/XM 198 (internet 960),uclabruins.com and tunein.com and the TuneIn App.
VS. UNLV / THE MWC — This will be the second meeting between the Bruins and the Rebels on the gridiron. UCLA is 42-6-2 all-time vs. teams in the current Mountain West Conference -- UNLV (1-0), Air Force (6-4-1), Colorado St. (2-0), Fresno State (6-2), Hawai'i (2-0), Nevada (1-0), New Mexico (1-0), San Diego St. (21-0-1), San Jose St. (1-0), Utah St. (1-0).
TICKETS — Season tickets for 2016 are on sale at uclabruins.com/tickets. The Bruins have six home games at the Rose Bowl – Sept. 10 vs. UNLV (5:00 p.m.), Sept. 24 vs. Stanford, Oct. 1 vs. Arizona, Oct. 22 vs. Utah, Nov. 12 vs. Oregon State and Nov. 19 vs. USC.
HONORARY CAPTAIN -- Akeem Ayers played three seasons at UCLA, making 28 career starts, at linebacker and defensive end for the Bruins from 2008-10 and served as team captain in 2010. He earned second-team All-America honors that season and was one of five finalists for the Butkus Award and a first-team All-Pac-10 selection. His total of 68 tackles ranked fourth on the team and included 10.0 tackles for loss and a couple of interceptions. In 2009, he started all 13 games and was named a Sophomore All-America by CollegeFootballNews.com. He tied a UCLA season record with two interception returns for a touchdown and added another score on a fumble return. Ayers totaled 14.5 tackles for loss that season and was named the MVP of the Eagle Bank Bowl after being credited with nine tackles and returning an interception for a touchdown. He appeared in 12 games as a freshman in 2008 and was named to the Rivals.com Pac-10 All-Freshman team. Ayers was selected 39th overall by Tennessee in the 2011 NFL Draft. During the 2014 season, he was traded to New England and was a member of the Patriot's Super Bowl XLIX winning team. He joined the Rams in 2015.
The 2016 season marks the 35th year that the Rose Bowl will serve as home of the Bruins.
UCLA moved to Pasadena from the L.A. Coliseum in the summer of 1982 and went 6-0-1 in that first year, capping the season with a victory over Michigan in the Rose Bowl game.
The 2006 season-opening win against Utah was UCLA's 100th at the Rose Bowl. The Bruins own a record of 141-64-2 since moving to Pasadena, including a 3-2 record in Rose Bowl games.
UCLA, 37-17 under Coach Mora, is 17-8 in games played in the Rose Bowl. The Bruins are 22-9 in the last 31 home contests and most recently posted an unbeaten home season in 2005 (6-0).
UCLA has won its last five home openers - 2011 vs. San Jose State, 2012 vs. Nebraska, 2013 vs. Nevada, 2014 vs. Memphis and 2015 vs. Virginia.
UCLA has won 14 of its last 17 non-conference match-ups, it had a streak of 11 straight non-conference wins snapped in last season's bowl loss to Nebraska. UCLA had won all 12 regular season non-conference games under Coach Mora before falling in overtime at Texas A&M.
QB Josh Rosen registered his seventh career 300-yard passing game vs. Texas A&M (343 yards). He is now tied for third on the school all-time list with Cory Paus, 1999-2002. School leader is Cade McNown, 1995-98, with 11.
RB Soso Jamabo's 23 carries at A&M was a career-high total. His previous high was 18 carries last season v. California. Receiver Kenneth Walker III recorded a career-best six catches for a career-best 115 receiving yards. Austin Roberts also had a career-high five catches.
