SEATTLE – UCLA junior forward Seyi Adekoya has signed a Major League Soccer (MLS) homegrown contract with the Seattle Sounders FC, announced the club on on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

Adekoya is the third UCLA player this season to sign as a MLS homegrown player, joining Jose Hernandez (Real Salt Lake) and Reggie Cannon (FC Dallas) who both signed with their respective clubs in December. In total, UCLA has had four players sign MLS homegrown contracts as Matt Wiet was the first in 2013 with the Columbus Crew.

Adekoya, a native of Seattle, Wash., is a three-time All-Pac 12 selection including being named to the first team in 2015. He is a two-time NSCAA All-Far West Region selection and also earned Freshman All-America recognition in 2014. Adekoya finished this season with nine points with three goals and three assists including the game-winning goal against Coastal Carolina. In three seasons in Westwood, Adekoya totaled 48 points with 20 goals, including five game winners, and a season-high 12 goals in 2015.

Adekoya marks the sixth Bruin player to make the jump to the MLS this season as the Bruins had three players drafted on the opening day of the MLS SuperDraft including two in the first round with first overall pick Abu Danladi to Minnesota United FC and sixth overall pick Jackson Yueill to San Jose Earthquakes. In the second round, Michael Amick was selected by the Portland Timbers with the 32nd overall selection.
