LOS ANGELES -- UCLA freshman Maddie Musselman (Newport Beach, CA/Corona del Mar) was named the MPSF Newcomer of the Week today as announced by the league.
Musselman scored 12 total goals to lead the Bruins to a 4-0 weekend at the UC Santa Barbara Winter Invitational, which saw the Bruins capture wins over a quartet of top-15 teams. The freshman was a force on both sides of the ball in a 15-4 victory versus No. 10 Pacific, as she tallied three goals and three steals. It was much of the same in the second match, as Musselman scored a team-best four goals and swiped four steals in a 20-5 win over No. 15 Indiana. Then Sunday afternoon versus No. 11 UC San Diego, the attacker poured in five goals and added three more steals in a 17-2 win to send the No. 3 Bruins home 6-0. This is Musselman's second consecutive Newcomer of the Week award and second career MPSF honor.
The Bruins will next play Long Beach State on Feb. 3 (6:00 p.m.) at the Lindgren Aquatics Center.
