ST. LOUIS (USBWA) --  The U.S. Basketball Writers Association announced its midseason watch list for the Women's National Player of the Year, an award named after Bruin great, the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award.

Two Bruins, juniors Jordin Canada and Monique Billings, made the list of 28 women from around the country. A total of seven players from the country's toughest an No. 1 rated conference, the Pac-12 Conference, made the list. Both Billings and Canada are the only teammates in the Pac-12 ranked in the top five in scoring. Billings leads the Bruins and is fourth in the Pac-12 at 18.2 points per game while Canada is fifth in the league at 17.6 points per game. Billings is also second in the Pac-12 in rebounding (11.0 rpg) and fourth in steals (2.2 spg) while Canada leads the league in assists (7.2 apg) and is third in steals (2.3 spg).

Balloting for the USBWA's Women's All-America Team and the association's individual awards will take place in March. The Ann Myers Drysdale Award, National Coach of the Year and the Freshman of the Year awards will be presented at a news conference in conjunction with the Women's Final Four in Dallas.

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. With some 1,000 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball. It has selected an All-America team since the 1956-57 season.
