ATLANTA – The No. 24 UCLA women's tennis team earned all of its points in straight sets in defeating No. 20 Kentucky, 4-0, on the first day of ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Saturday at Georgia Tech's Ken Byers Tennis Complex in Atlanta. The Bruins move on to face No. 11 Georgia Tech Sunday at 10:00 a.m. PT.
The Bruin duo of Terri Fleming and Alaina Miller finished first on Court 2, as it dispatched the Kentucky team of Akvile Parazinskaite and Morgan Chumney, 6-2.Then, in a showdown of top-10 doubles teams, UCLA's ninth-ranked pairing of Jada Hart and Ena Shibahara defeated No. 1 Aldila Sutjiadi and Mami Adachi to clinch the doubles point for the Bruins heading into singles action.
Singles play saw straight-set wins across the board for UCLA, beginning on Court 6 with Kristin Wiley, who defeated Kentucky's Chumney, 6-4, 6-0. On Court 1, No. 4 Shibahara defeated 12th-ranked Sutjiadi, 6-2-6-3. Hart then clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over the Wildcats' Justina Mikulskyte.
On Sunday, the Bruins will face 11th-ranked Georgia Tech for a chance to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in February. The Yellow Jackets defeated Penn, 4-0, in an earlier match Saturday.
