Opens in a new window Jerry West Award Watch List

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – UCLA senior guard Bryce Alford has been named as one of 10 watch list finalists for the 2017 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award.

Named after Hall of Famer and 1959 NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player Jerry West, the annual honor is now in its third year and recognizes the top shooting guards in Division I men's college basketball. A national committee comprised of top college basketball personnel determined the revised watch list of 10 candidates.

Alford, a 6-foot-3 guard, has averaged a team-leading 16.6 points per game for the Bruins. He has registered career high percentages this season, knocking down 48.5 percent of his total shots and 45.6 percent of his three-point attempts.

With just nine games remaining in the regular season, Alford has moved into second place on UCLA's career three-point list, having made 285 career three-pointers (just 32 shy of Jason Kapono's school record of 317). In addition, Alford ranks No. 13 on the Bruins' all-time scoring list with 1,729 points.

Joining Alford on the 10-man midseason watch list are James Blackmon Jr. (Indiana), Jacob Evans (Cincinnati), Marcus Foster (Creighton), Devonte' Graham (Kansas), Peter Jok (Iowa), Luke Kennard (Duke), Jordan Mathews (Gonzaga), Malik Monk (Kentucky) and Steve Vasturia (Notre Dame).

Of the 10 watch list finalists, Alford ranks first in three-pointers made (72) and second in three-point field goal percentage (45.6).

In March, five finalists will be presented to Jerry West and the Hall of Fame's selection committee for the 2017 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award. The winner of this year's award will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show live from The Novo by Microsoft in downtown Los Angeles on Friday, April 7. Broadcast information will be released at a later date.

Previous winners of this award include Buddy Hield (Oklahoma, 2016) and D'Angelo Russell (Ohio State, 2015).
