Headlining a group of eight Bruins selected for the first induction class for the Southern California Indoor Volleyball Association Hall of Fame (SCIVBHOF) are Al Scates, who coached the UCLA men's volleyball team to an NCAA record 19 titles and longtime (1965-2010) Bruin women's head coach Andy Banachowski. Coach Banachowski was part of two UCLA USVBA titles in 1965 and 67 as a player under Scates and then worked as an assistant coach to Scates from 1972-77 when the Bruin men won three more NCAA titles. He then went on to capture six national championships as the UCLA women's head coach.
Also on the induction list is Karch Kiraly, the current USA Women's Olympic Coach, who won three NCAA titles as a player at UCLA and led the USA to its first two Olympic Indoor Gold Medals in 1984 and 1988. The class also includes 1988 Olympic Gold Medalists middle blocker Doug Partie and setter Ricci Luyties. Sinjin Smith, who was captain and NCAA MVP of UCLA's 1979 title team that was the first unbeaten team in NCAA history is also being honored along with former UCLA USVBA National Champions and All-Americans from the 1950s, Mike O'Hara and Rolf Engen

The location is at the site of the training center for the USA Men's and Women's National Teams. The event is set for Sunday night, May 7 at the Highway 39 Event Center in Anaheim.
