PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. - The fifth-ranked Bruins were the only team under par in the opening round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, shooting a 4-under 280 to take a five-shot lead after 18 holes at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.

Sophomore Lilia Vu and freshman Mariel Galdiano both shot 2-under 69s and are tied for third, one stroke back of the individual lead. Starting on the 10th, Vu made back-to-back birdies on #13 and #14. The lone blemish on her scorecard came on the third, as she added a birdie on the ninth to finish her round at 2-under.

Galdiano blistered the back nine of PVGC, going 6-under in her first seven holes. She twice had consecutive birdies (#10-#11, #13-#14), and then eagled the par-5 16th. Galdiano came back to the field on the front nine, making four bogeys to finish with a 69.

Freshman Clare Legaspi was a third Bruin to shoot under par, firing a 1-under 70 to put her in a tie for seventh. She made three birdies on #12, #16 and #9 to go with two bogeys. Sophomore Bethany Wu is tied for 15th at 1-over 72. She made four birdies (#12, #16, #7 and #9) and five bogeys. Junior Joo Seo shot a non-team scoring 5-over 76 and is tied for 56th after making one birdie on the seventh and six bogeys. Senior Hadas Libman, playing as an individual, is tied for 20th after a 2-over 73. She made three birdies on #12, #15 and #17, adding three bogeys and a double.

The Bruins start off on the 10th again on Monday. Libman will begin at 9 a.m., followed by Seo, Legaspi, Wu, Galdiano and Vu. Live scoring will be available here.
