WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – The Bruins are tied for seventh after the first day of play at the Amer Ari Invitational at the Waikoloa Kings' Course. As a team, UCLA shot a 3-under 285.

Junior Corey Shaun is leading the fivesome of UCLA golfers following an opening-round, 2-under 70. Starting on the 12th hole, he made two quick birdies on #14 and #15, as well as the first and second holes, before dropping a shot on both #6 and #8. Shaun is 6-under in his last 36 holes of golf and is tied for 22nd after 18 holes in Hawai'i.

Freshman Hidetoshi Yoshihara is tied for 30th after a 1-under 71. He birdied his first hole, the 11th, as well as #13 and #15. Following bogeys on #16 and #2, Yoshihara added a birdie on #4. He would double the ninth, but closed his round with a birdie on #10 for his third under-par round of the season.

Sophomores Matt Hutchins and Cole Madey are both tied for 43rd after shooting even-par 72s. Hutchins had five birdies (#18, #2, #4, #8 and #11) to go with two bogeys and a triple. Madey eagled the par-5 fourth, while making birdies on the 18th and second, adding four bogeys. Junior Tyler Collier shot a non-team scoring 73 (+1) and is tied for 58th. He birdied his first hole, #11, as well as the sixth, to go with three bogeys.
