LOS ANGELES – The UCLA Baseball team was picked fifth in the Preseason Pac-12 Coaches Poll, announced the conference on Thursday, as voted on the conference's 11 head coaches. The Bruins received 54 points overall.

Oregon State was picked as the preseason favorite for the second-straight season, receiving 97 points and eight of the 11 first-place votes. Stanford finished behind the Beavers for second place in the poll with 89 points and two first-place votes. College World Series finalist Arizona was third with 78 points, followed by Washington with 76 points and the final first-place vote.

Following UCLA is Utah at six, Arizona State at seven, Oregon at eight, California at nine, USC at 10 and Washington State at 11.

The Bruins finished last season 25-31 overall and 12-18 in the conference. UCLA returns junior right-handed pitcher Griffin Canning who earned All-Pac-12 honors last season and was named a Preseason All-American by Baseball America earlier this week. The offense returns junior first baseman Sean Bouchard who hit .295 with 36 RBIs and 23 runs in 2016.

UCLA's coaching staff brought in 13 newcomers for the 2017 season and the class ranked No. 16 in the country by Baseball America. The incoming class includes four infielders, three pitchers, three outfielders and three catchers.

The Bruins open the season with a three-game homestand against San Jose State starting on Friday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. from Jackie Robinson Stadium.
