FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Maria Polyakova claimed her second Pac-12 Championship in as many years when she won the 3-meter diving event during Friday's evening session. The junior was joined on the podium by teammate Annika Lenz, who took third in the competition. The first Bruin title of the Pac-12 Championships capped another day of school records and personal bests on Day 3.
The 3-meter diving event was paced by Polyakova and Stanford's Kassidy Cook. The pair dueled Thursday night in the 1-meter competition, which Cook won by less than three points. Friday, Polyakova was a force on the 3m, as she buried the competition with a near-school-record score of 385.00. Cook finished second (367.50), while Annika Lenz made it two Bruins on the podium with her third-place score of 330.90.
Linnea Mack, meanwhile, shattered her school record in the 100 Back with a time of 50.56 in the A final. The time was good for a podium finish, where she joined Stanford's Ally Howe, who broke the American, NCAA and Pac-12 records in the event with a time of 49.69. Madison White (53.00 in the B final) and Natalie Amberg (54.87 in the C final) also achieved success in the 100 Back with personal-best times.
Emma Schanz joined Mack as one of two individual Bruin swimmers to qualify for an A final, when she swam with the field of eight in the 400 IM. The sophomore recorded a time of 4:12.10 in the event, good for a seventh-place finish.
In the 100 Fly, Katie Grover won the B final heat with a personal-best time of 51.95, which fell just 0.06 seconds back of the school record held by Ting Wen Quah, set in 2014. Marie-Pierre Delisle added her own personal-best time of 54.56 in the 100 Fly, which was good for second in the C final.
Kenisha Liu posted a personal-best time of 1:46.50 in the B final of the 200 Free, while Amy Okada recorded her personal-best time of 1:01.28 in the B final of the 100 Breast.
To cap the day, the Bruin quartet of Mack, Okada, Grover and Isabella Goldsmith broke the school record in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3:34.02. That time was good for a sixth-place finish in the event.
The Pac-12 Championships will conclude Saturday with another full day of events. The 10:30 a.m. session will include the preliminary rounds of the 200 Back, the 100 Free, the 200 Breast and the 200 Fly. At 12:30, the preliminary round of the platform will take place. The 1650 Free heats will follow, with the fastest heat scheduled for 6:00 p.m. At 6:35 p.m., the final rounds of the morning events, as well as the platform, will conclude the competition.
