COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The UCLA track and field team opened the Charlie Thomas Invitational with some impressive opening season marks in the pentathlon, Friday at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.

Junior Kendall Gustafson posted a personal best score of 3,882 points to win the multi-event. Gustafson was the top collegiate finisher in the 60m hurdles, high jump and shot put.

Sophomore Christina Chenault, in her first collegiate multi competition, placed third with 3,548 points. That score is the eighth best performance in UCLA indoor history. Chenault cemented her finish by winning the 800m with a time of 2:20.87. 

Senior Monique Van rounded out a solid trio performance for the Bruins as she placed fifth with 3,220 points. 

On the track, the men's distance medley relay finished fourth with a time of 9:55.63 while the women's DMR was sixth at 11:57.92. 

Day two action will begin at 10:30 a.m. PT with the women's 60m hurdles and the men's long jump.
