Kocian Named Pac-12 Gymnast, Freshman of Week

Kocian earned career-high scores of 39.625 in the all-around and 9.95 on beam and floor.

Freshman Madison Kocian has been named both the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week and the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week after scoring career-highs in the all-around, beam and floor at Arizona State last Saturday.

Kocian won the all-around for the third time in four meets, scoring a career-high 39.625. Her all-around total included a pair of 9.95s on balance beam and floor exercise, both career-best numbers. She also tied for second on vault with a career-high-tying 9.875, the third-straight week she has earned that score on vault, and she led off the competition with a 9.85 on uneven bars.

The 2016 Olympic gold medalist now ranks No. 3 in the nation on balance beam with an average of 9.894 and is tied for seventh on floor exercise with an average of 9.912, She also ranks 23rd in the nation in the all-around.

These are Kocian's first Pac-12 weekly honors, and the Freshman of the Week award is the second consecutive by a UCLA gymnast. Kyla Ross won the award last week. Stanford's Elizabeth Price was named the Specialist of the Week.
