The award is the fifth of the season for the freshman.

LOS ANGELES -- UCLA freshman Maddie Musselman (Newport Beach, CA/Corona del Mar) was named the MPSF Newcomer of the Week today as announced by the league.

Musselman got things started in the Bruins' 10-4 win over No. 4 California with the game's lone first-quarter goal. Goalies alternated saves until the first-year attacker found the back of the net with 43 seconds remaining to give UCLA a lead it would never relinquish. On defense, Musselman keyed an effort that saw the Bruins hold the Golden Bears to a season-low four-goal output. The attacker totaled two steals and two field blocks. She also won three sprints. This is Musselman's fifth Newcomer of the Week award, including her third in a row, and fifth career MPSF honor.

No. 3 UCLA will next travel to Honolulu for three games at the Hawaii Invitational. In the first of the contests, the Bruins will take on No. 12 San Diego State on Thursday, March 30 at 10:15 p.m. (PT). The team will also square off with host No. 8 Hawai'i and No. 13 UC Santa Barbara.
