LOS ANGELES -- Four UCLA Bruins reported to WNBA training camps on April 23, 2017. Noelle Quinn (2004-07), Darxia Morris (2008-11), Rebekah Gardner (2009-12) and Nirra Fields (2013-16) are all seeking spots on WNBA rosters for the upcoming 2017 season.
Quinn, a 10-year veteran of the WNBA, was a standout at UCLA from 2004-07. She was the fourth overall pick in the first round of the 2007 WNBA Draft by the Minnesota Lynx. She has played for five different teams in the league and is currently with the Seattle Storm, where she appeared in 20 games in 2016. The Storm open the season on Saturday, May 13 at the Los Angeles Sparks after two preseason games (vs. Phoenix, May 3 and at Phoenix, May 7).
Fields, a 32nd pick in the third round of the 2016 WNBA Draft by the Phoenix Mercury, was a three-time All-Pac-12 honoree. She played four games with Phoenix last season and is currently with the Atlanta Dream. The Dream open the season at the Connecticut Sun on Saturday, May 13 after an exhibition game at Minnesota on May 5.
Morris, an All-Pac-12 selection in 2011, played four games during the 2014 season with the Los Angeles Sparks. She is one of 22 players in training camp with the Atlanta Dream.
Gardner, an All-Pac-12 honoree in 2012, has spent the last five seasons playing overseas, and in 2016-17 played in Turkey for Osmaniye Genclik (KBSL). She is participating in her second WNBA training camp (was in Atlanta two years ago) and is with the Chicago Sky this season. The Sky open their season on Sunday, May 14 after two preseason games (at Connecticut Sun on May 2 and vs. New York Liberty in Uncasville, Conn., on May 3).
