SAN FRANCISCO - For the second time this season, Rachel Garcia has earned both Pac-12 Pitcher and Freshman of the Week honors in the same week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. For the week, Garcia was 2-0 with one save, a 0.00 earned run average and 16 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings in the circle, while also going 4-for-10 (.400) with two walks at the plate.

Garcia, who also completed the Pac-12 double on April 11, has earned three Pac-12 Pitcher and three Pac-12 Freshman of the Week plaudits this season. She was named Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 21 and Freshman of the Week on March 28. This week's awards mark the 66th Pac-10/12 Pitcher of the Week for UCLA and the fifth Freshman of the Week honor in just the third year the award has been bestowed.

Last weekend, Garcia earned two wins and a save to help the Bruins record a sweep of #22 California. In game one (April 21), she struck out nine (one shy of tying a career high) in a complete-game, six-hitter, allowing two unearned runs and two walks. The next night (April 22), the redshirt freshman retired all seven batters she faced in relief, fanning three, to post her second save of the season. Garcia completed the weekend with another win on April 23, striking out four in 5 1/3 innings of shutout relief, giving up two hits and two walks. At the plate, Garcia had one hit in all four games last week, including an RBI single on April 18 against Cal State Fullerton.

For the season, Garcia is 15-7 with two saves, a 1.93 ERA and 135 strikeouts in 130 2/3 innings in the circle, while posting a .301 average at the plate with four home runs and 18 runs batted in.

The Bruins, ranked 12th in this week's national rankings, head to CSUN on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. game. Live audio will be available on UCLABruins.com.
