WENG'AN, China -- UCLA senior guards Kari Korver and Nicole Kornet are in China until May 9 to participate in the Four Nations International Basketball Tournament on a team organized and coached by NetScouts Basketball.

The Bruin duo left Los Angeles on April 24 to play in three cities for a total of nine games against the national teams of China and Lithuania as well as an All-Star team from Canada. The team will play three games in round-robin matches in Weng'an from April 28-30, Tongren from May 2-4 and in Jiahe from May 6-8.

The NetScourts Basketball USA All-Stars include: Leslie Lopez-Wood, 5'6, PG, (Loyola Marymount); Simone DeCoud, 5'5, PG (UC Riverside); Brittany Crain, 5'8, SG (UC Riverside); Kari Korver, 5'9, SG (UCLA); Ashley Clark, 5'11, SG (Tulsa); Nicole Kornet, 6'1, SF (UCLA); Kiara Kudron, 6'2, F (Gonzaga); Alisia Jenkins, 6'1, F (South Florida); Shereen Sutherland, 6'2, C (UC Irvine) and Rachel Mitchell, 6'7, C (Texas A&M). The team will be coached by Perry Huang, previously with Santa Cruz of the NBA D-League and assisted by Carl Berman of NetScouts Basketball and D'shara Strange of Montana Tech.

Last night, the USA All-Stars took down Canada, 64-53 in Weng'an in front of 3,841 fans in the opening game. Crain scored 16 points to lead the U.S. while Jenkins added 11 points and eight rebounds. Kyanna Pingue-Giles led Canada with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

The USA All-Stars took an early 19-9 lead before the Canadians battled back to take a 26-25 lead just before halftime. Crain then hit a three-pointer to give the Americans a 28-26 lead at the break. The U.S. outscored Canada 21-12 in the third quarter to help put the game out of reach. The USA extended the lead to 16 midway in the fourth quarter and then coasted to victory.

The USA All-Stars took 21 more shots than Canada but shot only 26-for-82 (31.7%) from the field. They did make nine three-pointers (9-of-27) with Crain drilling three and Korver and Lopez-Wood making two each. The Canadians had a +8 edge on the boards but that was mainly the result of the USA missing 15 more shots than Canada. The USA came up with 19 steals and forced Canada into 22 turnovers.

Korver finished with eight points, four rebounds, three assists and one block while Kornet added three points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals.

China dominated in the opener as they destroyed Lithuania 89-46. Six Chinese players scored in double-figures and they out-rebounded Lithuania by 15.  China faces Canada in the first game tonight while the USA faces Lithuania in the nightcap.

The NetScouts Basketball USA All-Stars used a strong third quarter to pull way from a determined Lithuania team 75-68 on Saturday night in Weng'an. Kudron (16 points, 13 rebounds) and Jenkins (18 points, 7 rebounds) led the surge to help the Americans to the win. Juskiate had her second solid game in two nights leading Lithuania with 24 points and 10 rebounds.

Lithuania started off the game strongly, taking a 22-17 advantage after the first quarter and then pulled out to a 10-point lead midway into the second quarter. The USA All-Stars then closed the half on a 10-2 run and took a 38-37 lead on a DeCoud jumper just before intermission. The Americans continued their run with a 22-11 edge in the third quarter as they took a 60-48 lead into the final stanza. The USA expanded the lead to 16 points before Lithuania used a late surge to cut the final margin down to seven points.

The Americans improved their shooting tonight to 38 percent for the game but still only shot 6-of-21 (28%) from distance. They did not take good care of the ball, particularly in the first half when they committed 16 of their 24 turnovers and helped Lithuania stay in the game. Rebounding and the inside play of Kudron and Jenkins was the difference as the USA held a +12 rebounding advantage including a +9 advantage on the offensive boards. Nine of Kudron's game-high 13 rebounds came on the offensive end. The USA had only 11 assists against their 24 turnovers which usually isn't a recipe for a win.

Kornet (10 points) shot the ball well tonight (4-of-6) with one three-pointer while. es of action. Korver made two three-pointers and grabbed six rebounds from her guard spot.

China continued to impress in topping Canada 81-51 in the opener. China and the USA will face off tomorrow night for the title in Weng'an and the Weng'an Rural Commercial Bank Cup. A standing room only crowd is expected.
