UCLA Teams Earn High APR Marks

Bruin Athletics

Six Bruin teams receive APR Public Recognition Awards with perfect scores of 1,000.

UCLA teams continue to achieve high marks in the NCAA's Academic Progress Rates (APR), which were released today by the NCAA for all Division I sports teams for the 2012-13 through 2015-16 period. Each UCLA sport had four-year APR averages well above the 930 score that the NCAA uses as a threshold for penalties.

Every Bruin team earned multi-year rates of 950 or above, with six teams receiving an APR Public Recognition Award with perfect scores of 1,000. Three conference championship squads are among the award-winning teams – Pac-12 champion women's golf (for the eighth year in a row), Pac-12 regular season champion men's tennis, and MPSF champion women's water polo. Also receiving Public Recognition Awards are men's volleyball (for the second-straight year), women's cross country, and women's beach volleyball, who joins CSU Bakersfield as the first two beach volleyball programs ever to earn Public Recognition Awards.

"Our student-athletes continue to succeed in a rigorous academic and athletic environment, demonstrating their resolve to achieve in all facets of their intercollegiate athletic experience," said Ja'Nae Davis, UCLA Associate Athletic Director, Academic & Student Services. "Their hard work and determination, along with support from administration, campus partners, coaches and academic support staff, display our collective commitment to fostering a culture of academic achievement and excellence."

A total of 12 UCLA teams earned single-year perfect marks of 1,000 for the 2015-16 academic year –women's beach volleyball, men's cross country, women's cross country, women's golf, women's gymnastics, women's rowing, softball, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's volleyball and women's water polo.

A multi-year APR score of 930 is the minimum level of academic success; teams scoring below 930 are ineligible for postseason and subject to additional penalties determined by the NCAA. No UCLA team has ever had a rate lower than the required benchmark since the implementation of the NCAA APR in August of 2003.
