UCLA Falls at Washington State 7-3

PULLMAN, Wash. – Chase Strumpf drove in a pair of runs, while Michael Toglia went 2-for-4 with a home run as the UCLA baseball team fell to Washington State, 7-3, on Saturday from Bailey-Brayton Field.

Washington State scored quickly with a run in the bottom of the first inning but UCLA tied the game in the top of the fourth inning on a Strumpf sacrifice fly to right field to plate Sean Bouchard who led off the inning with a double.

The Cougars regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with a two-run frame as James Rudkin drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Justin Harrer hit a RBI-double for a 3-1 lead.

The Bruins cut the deficit to just one run in the sixth inning as Strumpf hit a two-out double to center field to score Bouchard for the second time, but WSU extended its lead with three runs in the sixth inning for a 6-2 advantage.

After a Cougar home run made it 7-2 in the seventh inning, Toglia would answer with a solo home run of his own in the top of the eighth inning, going to the opposite field over the left-field wall for the final score of 7-3.

Jake Bird (4-3) suffered the loss allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits with one strikeout. WSU's starter Cody Anderson (5-2) earned the win tossing 5.2 innings allowing two runs on four hits with two strikeouts.

UCLA (24-23, 13-10) finished with three runs on six hits and two errors, while Washington State (24-22, 10-13) ended with seven runs on 12 hits and no errors.

UCLA will play the series finale of this three-game Pac-12 series at Washington State on Sunday starting at noon (PT) from Bailey-Brayton Field. The game will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Network.
