LUBBOCK, Texas - Sophomore Lilia Vu is tied for fourth and the top-seeded Bruins are tied for sixth after two rounds at the Lubbock NCAA Regional at The Rawls Course.
The top six teams after Wednesday's round will advance to the NCAA Championships in Sugar Grove, Ill. (May 19-24). The Bruins, who shot an 8-over 296 for the second round in a row, are tied with Kent State (+16, 592) for sixth place. Arizona State (-6) leads the field, followed by Texas Tech (+6), Furman (+7), Oregon (+7) and Texas (+13), with San Diego State (+18) just behind UCLA and Kent State.
Freshmen Mariel Galdiano and Clare Legaspi each had the low rounds of the day for UCLA at 1-over 73. Galdiano, who is tied for 22nd after 36 holes at +4 (148), had a pair of birdies on Tuesday on the first and 15th holes to go with three bogeys. Legaspi had three birdies (#8, #9 and #17), two bogeys and a double. She is tied for 68th overall at +12 (156).
Vu, winner of four straight tournaments, is three shots back of first place heading into Wednesday's final round at 2-under (142). She made an eagle on the ninth, a birdie on #2, three bogeys and one double in her second-round 74 (+2). Junior Erin Choi posted a 4-over 76 in round two and is tied for 68th (+12, 156). She recorded three birdies on #2, #6 and #12, as well as seven bogeys. Sophomore Bethany Wu had a non-team scoring 78 (+6) and is tied for 44th (+7, 151), making birdies on #9 and #14 to go with eight bogeys.
The Bruins will begin their final round on Wednesday at 8 a.m. CT/6 a.m. PT in the order of Legaspi, Choi, Wu, Galdiano and Vu. Live scoring will be available here.
