LOS ANGELES – The 2017 recipients of All-America honors for the 2017 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field season were revealed Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Fourteen Bruins took home a total of 15 honors from the organization.
The announcement followed the conclusion of the NCAA Championships at historic Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. First-team USTFCCCA All-America honors were garnered by student-athletes who finished in the Top 8 in their events, including their roles as members of relay squads, at the National Championships.
The second-team All-Americans finished ninth through 16th in their events, while honorable mention acclaim was given to those who placed 17th through 24th at Nationals.
Rai Benjamin capped of a stellar sophomore campaign with a runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles to take home the Bruins' only first-team honor.
UCLA's second-team student-athletes included seniors Zaybree Haury (javelin) and Austin O'Neil (3,000-meter steeplechase), who both concluded their careers as All-Americans. Haury and O'Neil finished 10th and 15th in their events, respectively. Sophomore Julia Rizk finished her strong middle-distance season with a 14th-place finish in the 800-meters.
