GREENSBORO, N.C. – UCLA right-handed pitcher Griffin Canning was selected to the 2017 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Team, recognizing him as the best defensive pitcher in the country by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Canning becomes the third UCLA player to earn a spot on the Gold Glove Team since its inception in 2007, joining Beau Amaral in 2012 and Pat Valaika in 2013.

Canning, who was named to the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team, committed just one error in 119 innings on the mound this season. He also held runners to a .455 stolen base percentage.

The native of Coto de Caza, Calif., was selected in the second round of June's MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels after earning All-America honors and being named an All-Pac-12 team selection.

Canning is one of two Pac-12 players to earn the honor as Oregon State second baseman Nick Madrigal was also named to the Gold Glove Team.
