Jake Arnitz and Mitch Stahl will represent The United States in the Pan American Cup, which begins on Tuesday in Gatineau, Canada with pool play matches.
Arnitz, a 2017 second-team American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American, led the Bruins with a 3.51 kills per set mark this past season. He finished the season ranked sixth on the all-time school list for total attacks with 1,757 and ninth on the all-time lists for kills (818) and total points scored (958.5). Arnitz, a 2017 first-team All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) selection, was named the MPSF/Molten Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in wins at USC and Cal Baptist when he hit .450 for the pair of matches with a total of 33 kills, including a career-high tying 21 kills versus the Lancers. In 2016, he also earned second-team AVCA All-America honors while helping lead the Bruins to the NCAA Championship Tournament.
Stahl saw action in 22 matches, all starts in the 2017 season. He hit .366 for the year and led the team with 42 aces and a 1.08 blocks per set mark. His 0.55 aces per set average was a new school record mark and ranked as the seventh-best in the NCAA. Stahl's blocks per set average rated 10th in the NCAA. He was named an honorable mention 2017 AVCA All-American and was a first-team All-MPSF selection. The Pennsylvania native finished his Bruin career No. 2 on the all-time school list for aces and No. 3 on the all-time school list for both career block assists and career total blocks.
The U.S. Men will begin pool play on Tuesday against Mexico. They will play Dominican Republic on Wednesday (July 26) and Cuba on Thursday (July 27). The other pool will include Argentina, Canada, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. The quarterfinals will take place July 28, semifinals on July 29 and finals on July 30. The team will be coached by Rob Neilson, who has been serving as a U.S. Men's National Team assistant coach this summer.
