LOS ANGELES - A pair of Bruins, senior Corey Shaun and junior Cole Madey, competed in the U.S. Amateur, which took place a few miles from the UCLA campus at Riviera and Bel-Air Country Clubs.

Madey advanced to the Round of 32 of match play after tying for 49th (+3, 143) in two days of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday (Aug. 14-15). He rebounded from a 4-over 74 at Bel-Air in round one on Monday to shoot a 1-under 69 at Riviera on Tuesday to make the cut.

Seeded 52nd in the Round of 64, Madey knocked off #13-seed Won Jun Lee by a margin of 3 and 2 at Riviera on Wednesday. He lost two of the first three holes, but won #2 and #5 to square the match. A victory on the seventh gave Madey the lead for good. He would also claim #11 and #15, with a halve on the 16th wrapping up the victory. Madey's Round of 32 contest on Thursday was a close one, but he ended up losing to #45 Noah Norton, 2 and 1. Madey won the second hole, but lost #5 and #9 to go 1-down heading to the back nine. The match became all-square after Madey won #11 and #13, with Norton winning the 12th. After a halve on the 14th, Norton won #15 and #16, with another halve on #17 finishing the match.

Shaun missed the cut after posting a 2-over 72 at Bel-Air and an 11-over 81 at Riviera (+13, 153).
